The infamous, combative Roy Cohn completed Columbia Law School at the age of 20, but had to wait until after his 21st birthday to be admitted to the bar. He soon made his mark by prosecuting Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, filmmaker’s Ivy Meeropol’s grandparents (who were ultimately unfairly convicted and then executed two years later). In this unflinching documentary, Meeropol not only dissects Cohn’s insidious work as Senator Joseph R. McCarthy’s top counsel during investigations into Communist activities in the 1950s, but shows how in the 1980s he became Donald J. Trump’s personal attorney, fixer, and mentor. Featuring interviews with Cindy Adams, Alan Dershowitz, and others who knew him, as well as Tony Kushner and Nathan Lane, who shone a spotlight on him in Angels in America—along with recently unearthed archival video and audio materials. Expanding on the portrait in Where’s My Roy Cohn? this intimate, personal film draws us closer to who Cohn really was.
