Presented in a new 4K “un-restoration,” Kubrick’s seminal masterwork returned to cinemas last year in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Of this new version of the classic film, visionary director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Dunkirk), who supervised its creation, said, “For the first time since the original release, this version was struck from new printing elements made from the original camera negative. This is a true photochemical film recreation. There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits. This is the unrestored film—it recreates the cinematic event that audiences experienced 50 years ago.” Seeing this new version is like stepping into the past and experiencing it as audiences did in 1968. A must-see event.
