It’s the end of an empire as the final Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville, Downton Abbey), is dispatched, along with his wife Edwina (Gillian Anderson, The X-Files), to New Delhi to oversee the transition of British India to independence. Mountbatten is initially hopeful for a peaceful transference of power, but soon conflict erupts as a country divided by religion and cultural differences faces monumental change.
