The year is 1940, London. The British government is desperate to convince America to join the war and boost British morale. They decide to make a propaganda film and recruit advertising copywriter Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton, Quantum of Solace) as a screenwriter. Initially relegated to writing the women’s dialogue, Catrin’s natural talent gets her promoted, and eventually she partners directly with the film’s head screenwriter, the curmudgeonly but passionate Buckley (Sam Claflin, Me Before You, The Hunger Games). Though her artist husband looks down on her work, Catrin’s resolve deepens as she and Buckley set out to make an epic film based on the Dunkirk rescue while actual bombs are dropping all around them. Featuring a stellar cast, including Bill Nighy and Jeremy Irons, the newest feature from filmmaker Lone Scherfig (Italian for Beginners, An Education) is full of wit, grace, and charm.
