The Hero

“…Elliott has a way of finding poetry in silent gaze, speaking his lines as if written on velvet.” (Seattle Times)

“You will almost assuredly leave The Hero knowing that [Sam Elliott] is a bona fide national treasure.” (Rolling Stone)

The great Sam Elliot (Road House, The Big Lebowski) reunites with writer/director Brett Haley (I’ll See You in My Dreams) for this heartfelt tale of regret and redemption. Elliot plays Lee Hayden, an aging Western star with a golden voice who has come to the realization that his career plateaued decades ago. Nowadays, Lee is stuck doing voice over work for commercials and spends most of his time reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman, NBC’s Parks and Recreation, The Founder), until a cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. Lee attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter, Netflix’s Jessica Jones, AMC’s Breaking Bad), and also strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon, Netflix’s Orange is the New Black), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.
