T2 Trainspotting

“There’s a hard-won wisdom at work here, as well as an aching sense of loss. Any way you look at it, T2 takes a piece out of you.” (Rolling Stone)

Twenty-one years ago, Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Steve Jobs) made Trainspotting, a film that came to define a generation; kick-starting his own career as well as his stars’ in the process. Now, two decades later, Boyle has reunited with his cast for the anxiously-awaited sequel. After the events of the first film, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor, American Pastoral, Miles Ahead) has spent the past two decades in Amsterdam but returns home to Edinburgh to make amends for stealing the payoff from a drug deal all those years ago. He finds his old friends Spud (Ewen Bremner, Snowpiercer) and Simon “Sick Boy” Williamson (Jonny Lee Miller, CBS’s Elementary) mostly stuck in the same place and hopes to avoid the dangerous and psychopathic Begbie (Robert Carlyle, 28 Weeks Later, Angela’s Ashes) who is out for revenge. Boyle’s sequel is a nostalgia-laden ode to misspent youth, an exhilarating trip down memory lane, and a sometimes painful contemplation of time wasted.
