Two Jesuit missionaries (Andrew Garfield, 99 Homes and Adam Driver, Patterson) travel from Portugal to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson, Schindler’s List). The journey takes place at a time when Christianity in Japan was outlawed and their presence forbidden. Upon their arrival in Japan, the two priests are met with horrific displays of violence and persecution. Their mission proves the ultimate test of their faith. Based on Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel of the same name, Martin Scorsese’s decades-long passion project is a monumental exploration of faith and doubt.
