Searching

Q&A filmmaker Aneesh Chaganty, writer Sev Ohanian & actor John Cho with JBFC Executive Director Edie Demas

After David Kim’s (John Cho, Columbus, Star Trek: Beyond) 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective (Debra Messing, NBC’s Will & Grace) is assigned to the case. 37 hours later, they don’t have a single lead. David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter’s laptop. In a hyper-modern thriller told via the technology we use every day to communicate, David must trace his daughter’s digital footprint before she disappears forever. This innovative debut from director Aneesh Chaganty won the 2018 Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was hailed as “an original blast of a film” (RogerEbert.com).
