John Pizzarelli Celebrates Antônio Carlos Jobim

Opening Night with Live Performance and Reception!

World-renowned guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli is no stranger to Jazz Sessions audiences. We are thrilled to welcome him back for another joyous evening of music, film, and celebration.

The House of Tom—Mundo, Monde, Mondo

A captivating documentary on Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, best known in the US for creating the 1960s bossa nova craze with tunes like “The Girl from Ipanema.” The “house” of the title is really three places “Tom” Jobim called home: Rio de Janeiro, New York City (where he maintained a small apartment), and his property in the Brazilian countryside. Directed by his widow, an accomplished photographer, the film features Jobim at the piano, reading poetry, and sharing tender moments at home with family and friends. (First screened, Jazz Sessions 2013)

Don’t miss the after-party upstairs in the Jane Peck Gallery!

This year, John Pizzarelli lends his virtuosity and intimate vocal style to a tribute to the great Antônio Carlos Jobim. The performance will include tunes from his critically acclaimed 2017 album John Pizzarelli: Sinatra & Jobim @ 50, recorded here at the JBFC.

John Pizzarelli has been hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” The Toronto Star pegged him as “the genial genius of the guitar,” and the Seattle Times saluted him as “a rare entertainer of the old school.” He has recorded over 20 solo albums and has appeared on more than 40 albums by other recording artists, including Paul McCartney, James Taylor, Rosemary Clooney, and his father, jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli.

This film is part of the Jazz Sessions: Take 10 series.
