Howard Hawks, another great genius of film, made El Dorado in his later years, and it is a delight to see the fun Hawks has with us in presenting this wryly-funny, character-driven rip-snorter. Mixed feelings about John Wayne? Me too, but you’re gonna love him in El Dorado. “The Duke” is getting up in years here as well, and seems to be having a blast stretching out in one of my all-time favorite westerns. In November, with the “Return of Saddle Up Saturdays,” you can be sure we’ll be sporting at least one of Hawk’s towering earlier masterpieces, Rio Bravo and/or Red River. –Jonathan Demme
