Autumn Sonata

Autumn Sonata was the only collaboration between cinema’s two great Bergmans: Ingmar, the iconic director of countless art-house classics, and Ingrid, the monumental Hollywood star (Casablanca). The grand dame, in her final feature film role, is matched in ferocity by Liv Ullmann (Persona) as her daughter, while the two confront the bitter discord of their relationship. This cathartic cinematic exercise, evocatively shot in burnished tones by Sven Nykvist, ranks among Ingmar Bergman’s major dramatic works.
