A Quiet Passion

Acclaimed British director Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, Sunset Song) returns with a beautifully realized portrait of the reclusive poet Emily Dickinson. Featuring a triumphant performance from Cynthia Nixon (HBO’s Sex and the City), A Quiet Passion explores the wit, intellectual independence, and pathos of the woman whose genius only came to be recognized after her death. Davies probes beyond the well-worn narrative of Dickinson as a fiercely private spinster and instead evokes her deep attachment to her close knit family along with the manners, mores, and spiritual convictions of her time. Dickinson’s modest world is brought to life with gorgeous, sweeping cinematography and meticulous detail, leaving us with “a brilliant chronicling of a life lived quietly.” (The Atlantic)
