Tech Specialist: Part-Time Support for 2022 Summer Camps

Reports to:      Technical Manager, Media Arts Lab

Position Objectives:

We are seeking a Technical Specialist to join our Media Arts Lab Summer Camp team.  Reporting to the Technical Manager, this position works closely with our full-time staff and seasonal staff (faculty and teaching assistants) and supports all day-to-day camp activities, including short collaborative film and animation projects.

Required availability: Our Media Arts Lab camps run from July 11 through August 5, Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.  There will be some additional training required prior to the start of Camp, starting on June 27.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day technical and production equipment support for the Media Arts Lab summer camps, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct production equipment checkouts and returns
  • Setting up technical facility for programmatic use, including both in-person and virtual programs
  • Support Technical Manager with regular inventory and maintenance of Media Arts Lab equipment, equipment room, and technical/production facilities
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting of JBFC production equipment, devices, software, and services (macOS, iOS, Adobe Creative Cloud, Zoom, Dropbox, Vimeo, etc.)
  • Provide equipment training and production support to fellows, residents, students, and staff, as needed
  • Conduct frequent walk-throughs/security checks and be responsible for facility opening/closing procedures of Media Arts Lab and 5 Grant Street building to assure safety and security of facility
  • Other appropriate tasks assigned by the Technical Manager

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support overall efforts of Media Arts Lab department, and organization at large, as needed
  • Any additional duties related to this position as deemed appropriate by Supervisor

 

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be fully-vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19
  • Experience working with children and young adults
  • Strong experience with video production and equipment, including digital cinema cameras
  • Strong experience of post-production and software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, and other video and animation production software
  • Experience with audio software, such as Pro Tools and Ableton, a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems and programs
  • Experience with cloud-based storage and video-streaming services
  • Experience with virtual platforms

Ideal Applicants Would Have:

  • College degree, or 2+ years equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Interest in film and/or arts education

 

Terms: June 27 – August 5, 2022, seasonal part-time position

Hours: Monday to Friday, approximately 20 hours a week

Compensation: $25.00/hour

Orientation: A 1-2 day orientation at the JBFC Media Arts Lab is required and will include training in:

  • Equipment and software
  • Group management techniques
  • COVID-19 Health Safety

 

First Aid/CPR Training is mandatory for all camp staff and will be held in person at the JBFC Media Arts Lab on June 16 from 9:30-11:45am.  Please note that there will be an on-line portion of the course that needs to be completed before this date. Staff will be compensated for this training time.
