Marketing Associate

The Jacob Burns Film Center is a nonprofit cultural and educational institution located in Pleasantville, NY, dedicated to presenting the best of independent, documentary, and world cinema, promoting visual literacy, and making film a vibrant part of the community.  We are seeking a Marketing Associate to join our team.

The Marketing Associate is responsible for marketing and publicizing the JBFC’s many film, education, and artist service programs, as well as the mission and activities of the institution. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and collaborates with all departments. Through their work, the Marketing Associate will build awareness, drive attendance, and advance our efforts to welcome and engage with a more diverse and inclusive audience. The position requires strong writing skills, the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks based on deadlines, and adjust accordingly as information and time-sensitivities change.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive attendance to our films, events, and education programs through all available channels: social media, email, website, print materials/brochures, partnerships, in-theater slides, press releases, event listings, local press outreach, and more. Maximize exposure for the organization through brand and institutional marketing.
  • Create, curate, and publish relevant, high-quality content (images, video, written) on social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn), the blog, and JBFC website.
  • Attract and establish new audiences through social media: identify potential new audiences/accounts, promote onsite events/JBFC participation in offsite events, and engage in cross-promotional social-media efforts with partner organizations and individuals when possible and relevant.
  • Reach out to individuals in organizations and community groups to establish ongoing connections, build and strengthen partner and community relationships, and invite them to the Theater for screenings and special events, as well as reciprocate by participating in other organizations’ meetings and events.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the institution at offsite events to inform and engage the public.
  • Write, edit, and distribute information to the media including, but not limited to, press releases, photos with and without captions, and calendar entries.
  • Liaise with internal employee-led DEI Committee to continually align Marketing department priorities and practices with DEI principles, in the interest of attracting new audiences and fostering an open and welcoming experience for all patrons.
  • Duties require occasional evening/weekend hours for events and outreach activities, both on- and off-site.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take on departmental/organizational projects/tasks as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and positive attitude.
  • Several years of experience within a non-profit or with related outreach activities preferred.
  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills, with an emphasis on public speaking.
  • Experience preparing reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, and other applications in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of community organizations/groups in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam counties is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or related fields preferred.


Start Date: January 2022

Annual Salary: $45,000
